Sentinels For Christ :: The Pledge

The Pledge

Posted by jimgrier on January 6, 2017

The last thing I want to do this year is sell another commitment I can’t fulfill. But if I want to make my life better, in Christ, and hopefully for those around me as well in a way that actually produces meaning, it’s going to start with self-examination.

In 2012, I purposed Sentinel For Christ’s, “The Pledge.”  The Pledge wasn’t anything more than principles which appeared to me as intrinsic to anyone claiming to being a professing Christian. You see I found, that purpose and meaning in life, wasn’t by “knowing the right things to do”, but going through the struggle without beating myself to death of simply, learning how to “live the right things to do.” Whatever else I do in life, The Pledge has helped me these past few years to stick spiritual barometer into myself and assess whether or not I was a hypocrite, and more importantly, was I am in touch with the Jesus I professed to follow?

Read the 10 principles of The Pledge, its takes about two minutes, and judge for yourself how you measure up, not for the purposes of establishing your virtue, but against your beliefs and how they fair when know ones looking. My hope is the Lord will bless your life and your impact in 2017.

THE PLEDGE:

  1. I am a Sentinel.  Contrary to the prevalent belief of the world, “I am my brother & sisters keeper.”  I will bear their burdens honoring them more than myself under the leadership of my Lord Jesus Christ.

  2. I am not anyone’s Holy Spirit or conscience.  I will allow God’s Spirit to work through me to elevate others to a personal knowledge of Jesus by how I live, act, and  speak.

  3. I will commit to seeking God’s will in my life by reading His Word daily.

  4. I will commit to pray thoughtfully for those God has brought into my life.

  5. Whenever possible I will give of my time and resources to help those in need.

  6. I choose to follow Jesus knowing this will expose me to circumstances and decisions that are unfamiliar and unpopular.  I do so with the purpose of letting His life reign in me to shine as light before the world for the glory of Christ.

  7. I believe every man, woman and child has intrinsic value and are made in the image of God which remains despite circumstance, failure or appearance.

  8. I will stand with the oppressed; I won’t remain silent when injustice is occurring.

  9. I will make the most of every opportunity to share God’s love demonstrated by His Son Jesus on the cross, gently, respectfully and soberly without compromising truth or showing partiality.

  10. I will allow God’s Spirit through prayer and His word to reveal my own hidden faults and weaknesses to conform to the image of His Son with thankfulness.
