When stepping out becomes following – Part 2

So Jesus is already walking on the water and has responded to your questions with “come”. You have seen and or heard of the miracles already happening and maybe even helped with what was needed for them to happen, but what changes are happening inside to truly make these kingdom moments? Just like Peter, these are the event’s that lead to stepping out of the boat if we allow them.

I was coming home from work, feeling challenged with the reality of my involvement of God’s kingdom coming to earth and His promised glory covering the earth as the waters cover the sea and was chatting to Him about this. While this chat was going on, and struggling with the feeling of being tired, a young guy collapsed to the ground across the road. I took this as an opportunity to release God’s kingdom, not knowing the full extent of what was just about to happen.

As I crossed the road a lady tried to help the young man up. He began to start swinging his fists and threw himself into the metal shutters of a shop window. My first thought was this guy is possessed. I was intimidated by this but had already walked across the road. The lady got a hold of him and began to walk him around the corner. I spoke to her and she was taking him up the road. I then had to resist the urge to walk away in fear and asked if I could pray for the guy. She said yes and I began to take authority over the situation in Jesus name, remembering the authority God gave to us, Jesus’s redemption of this on the cross and God’s power to raise Him from the dead. As I commanded his body to come back to normal, his heart to beat normally, for him to be sober and for him to come under the control and authority of Jesus, things began to change. I asked him if he knew Jesus, as it was only Jesus who can set him free, he said I believe. As this happened suddenly everything changed, his heartbeat when to normal, his eyes stopped twitching and rolling into his head and the hazy film on them left.

The guy was then clear-minded enough to even type his name into my phone. That evening he didn’t want any cigarettes or alcohol and still didn’t need any of them the next morning. Before he experienced Jesus freeing him like this he would take anything anyone would give him.

What is happening?

Jesus is getting our attention. He is asking us to come because it’s His desire to heal, deliver and save everyone. This young man of 20 years had a heart condition. He shared this was the case and that when he fell down the sky had gone black. If Jesus hadn’t of been free in me to go to this man, he would of possibly died at the age of 20.

Yes this was exciting, but God’s desire is beyond exciting, it’s a radical love that is violently attacking our enemy who is stealing, killing and destroying people every day. Our enemy is masquerading as the one in control, yet Jesus is Lord over those who believe. This relationship of authority and belief establishes a new rule of grace that releases life over sin and death, bring freedom and life – resurrection life.

Who am I?

There’s a change going on in me. It’s going from apathy and timidity to one who is beginning to truly step out and look for opportunities to do so. More than this is being able to truly trust God is with me in this. It isn’t enough to know God wants to do this, We need to realize God says “come” to us personally, has paid the price so we can and paid the price because He loves us. This knowing He paid the price because he loves us is key, and let me tell you why.

Why is Love key?

...Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him…(1 John 4: 7-12)

As we can see from these passages if we don’t love then we don’t know God. But we can take confidence that God abiding in us is bringing about a love in us that is being perfected because it’s His love. This is the love that motivated God to give His Son as an offering that permanently cleanses us of our sin and opens the way for us to experience His presence and be transformed. It is only through recognizing His love, receiving it, showing His mercy as we love others, coming to His throne of grace and allowing His love to be perfected in us that God’s will is manifest in and through our lives.

This love is so potent that it casts out any sense that we would be punished. It’s that He loved us first. He sent His Son so we can confidently receive this gift. For he poured out love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

Let this mind be in you. A mind filled with the reality of being loved and filled with the love of God for those around you. Let these thoughts establish a confidence of His love that nothing can separate you from.

If nothing can separate us from this Love, then He is with us always. This is the assurance that comes with us and pours out of us when we step out. This is the transformation that we offer, to know God, His love and receive this love through the gift of the Spirit and His eternal life.

So where is alignment with God or repentance in this?

Just like in a wedding vow there is a forsaking of all others. This isn’t just one way. Jesus gave up all and so are we to do likewise. Draw close to Him and He draws close to us. What does it look like when He shows up or makes tangible His presence in and through us? What happens to the worlds sin when you show them forgiveness and the love of Jesus? What happened to people’s illnesses when Jesus said your sins are forgiven (no more punishment)? They were all healed. Now it’s our turn and Jesus is there right beside us, flowing right through us, stirring our hearts to love, speaking the life, forgiving as we forgive, for He is love.
