April 2016 was a hard month….

Attached is a link for you to step up and help Molly and Gary Nickals kids in the wake of tragedy which has shocked our church and fellowship.  There’s a couple links to do this but I liked Ann’s link here as it put the hope where it needs to be in these situations.

God has been impressing on me over the last couple of months the need to “let go” of the disappointments and the discouragements of life even when they are hard to let go of especially in regards to the pain that may arise when families are involved.  One of the toughest things Jesus ever said was “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” Matthew 5: 44.  It is that unique aspect of the Christian life (forgiveness and the practice of it) that communicates to the world “we are sons and daughters of the Father.”  Matt 5: 45.

If we do not have a life that is authentic, it will show.  If we do not have a life that is genuine,  it shows also and the world is keen enough to sense it.  When the circumstance of life test us, and it most certainly will, It will be hard to draw on resources to meet the challenge to our life, and possibly our faith at the last moment.  Lets strive to live as mature, refined, and developed and never stop asking ourselves:

“Create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me.”  Psalm 51: 10

I have continually found that the attitude conveyed in this Psalm (I’m going on almost forty years now as a Christian) makes or breaks my relationship with Christ, and quite frankly the continual demand of “checking myself” spiritually is sometimes overwhelming.  Its too hard.  I don’t do it and subsequently flounder in my faith.

Its at this point I am grateful to God He picks up the rest and carries me broken to the cross.  Its in the shadow of the cross that what’s not understood or contemplated at the moment, the disappointments and  the failures are carried.  A veil of emotional satisfaction does not appear by the way, just sobering deafness and thankfully the reminder of the promise:

“For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not die but have eternal life.”

Its been a tough week, more for some than others, God is near the broken hearted….Psalm 34:18

On the morning of Thursday, April 28, a precious life was taken painfully too soon. A mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a niece, a cousin…and a beautiful child of God. Molly Lorentz Nickal was shot and killed. Tragically, shockingly,…
